About the Role: 

 

Under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor/Shipping Manager , the Shipping Crew Leader is responsible for coordinating the efforts of  themselves, and others on their assigned crew, in the operation of fork lift/clamp trucks used in placing inventory into the warehouse and pulling inventory for loading into outbound trucks.  The Shipping Crew Leader also serves as a liaison with incoming truck drivers and has a key role in resolving customer service and/or inventory issues.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a fork lift/clamp truck to remove loads of finished product from any of several finished goods conveyors and coordinates the efforts of others on assigned crew.
  • Drives a spotter truck to locate trailers from the drop yard to the docks for loading.
  • Assigns orders as they come in for loading being responsible to customer demands and time lines.
  • Serves as a liaison with incoming truck drivers and helps resolves customer service and/or inventory issues.
  • Operates a fork lift/camp truck to place finished goods into the proper bays in the warehouse for storage.
  • Keeps track of finished goods produces during assigned shift for comparison to production tally.
  • Receives orders for loading and operates a fork lift/clamp truck to pull proper products from inventory and loads products onto outbound trucks.
  • Occasionally manually hand stacks and loads manufactured products into outbound trucks.
  • Participates in physical inventory counts.
  • Drives a shuttle truck to place empty trailers into the loading docks from the trailer storage lot. Returns full trailer loads to the trailer lot.
  • Communicates with Shift Supervisor regarding any problems with inventories, orders, or customer questions.
  • Communicates with Maintenance Department and Shift Supervisor regarding any equipment that may need preventative maintenance or repair work performed.
  • Reviews recorded data regarding ongoing Warehouse operation on other shifts to spot potential problems with equipment or materials.
  • Insures that housekeeping in the Warehouse is maintained to a safe level and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such area for breaks, meal times, and end of the shift.
  • Knows all safety warning signs and signals and takes corrective action.
  • Must be able to report to work on time and work all hours required of the job, including mandatory overtime; may be required to occasionally cover shifts other than the one for which hired.
  • Remains current on plant and safety matters, participating regularly in department/plant safety meetings.
  • Records problems and events in maintenance and departmental log books to ensure the efficient operation of the Warehouse.
  • Performs administrative duties and other work related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current OSHA Certified Powered Industrial Vehicle operator license.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of one (1) year of warehouse/forklift experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of industrial experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have exhibited excellent attendance in prior work history and be committed to maintaining such attendance. This is a key qualification, due to the unusual nature of the operation.

 

To perform this job successfully, individuals must demonstrate the following:

  • Observe safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Accurately count and perform basic math functions, including mental calculation of simple equations and/or fractions.
  • Must be able to sufficiently read, write, and understand English.
