Summary of Position: 

 

Supports the Tax Manager, North America for direct and indirect taxes. Responsible for maintaining tax compliance and reporting of taxes to meet the company's tax requirements, including the preparation and returns for Federal, State and International compliance. Maintains accurate records in the tax fixed asset management system. May provide services in tax research, audit responses and other specific tax-related areas.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Tax Workpapers: Compile detailed workpapers for Federal, State, and Local tax returns, as well as the federal income tax provision.
  • Conduct Tax Research: Perform in-depth research on assigned areas, including Federal and State income taxes, to support compliance and decision-making.
  • Monitor Tax Compliance: Assist with managing the tax calendar to ensure all filing deadlines are met and compliance is maintained.
  • Sales and Use Tax Returns: Prepare workpapers for monthly sales and use tax returns and coordinate with external service providers to ensure accurate and timely filings.
  • Reconcile Tax Accounts: Perform monthly reconciliations for income tax accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support Credit Incentives: Research and prepare workpapers and calculations for tax credit incentives.
  • Independent Research and Analysis: Conduct independent research and analysis on key tax issues to assist senior staff in the taxation department.
  • Handle Tax Assignments: Undertake various assignments with clear objectives, such as coordinating and providing financial and operational information for tax return preparation.
  • International Tax Filings: Prepare international tax filings, including Forms 5472, 1042, and Canada GST/HST.
  • Provide Technical Tax Advice: Offer technical tax guidance to financial accounting staff and assist with tax-related matters as needed.
  • Investigate Tax Issues: Conduct initial investigations into tax issues and provide recommendations.
  • Prepare Reports and Studies: Develop reports and studies for management as requested to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Tax Team: Assist other members of the tax function as needed to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
  • Streamline Processes: Contribute to process and technology improvements to enhance reporting and compliance efficiency.
  • Develop Tax Expertise: Build general tax expertise through research and prepare memoranda to support tax positions.
  • Partner with Business Segments: Build relationships with business segments to identify tax-efficient opportunities and provide support for their functions.
  • Lead Tax Audits: Manage Federal and State tax audits, including data gathering and responding to inquiries.
  • Estimate Tax Liabilities: Assist with preparing estimated tax liabilities for budgets and quarterly actuals, as well as ensuring timely payment of these liabilities.
  • Drives the highest levels of employee retention and engagement to ensure a sustainable workforce.
  • Fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the organization.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or CPA certification, is highly preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in public accounting or a similar role, showcasing a strong understanding of financial and tax principles.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of tax incentives and state income tax reporting requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply statutes, regulations, and case law effectively.
  • Skilled in extracting data, analyzing it, and developing actionable recommendations.
  • Proactively identify and implement opportunities to enhance processes and workflows.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate within the department and across the organization as needed.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 5-10% of the time.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex information and provide insights.
  • Ability to manage projects efficiently, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Advanced computer skills in an MS Windows environment, with proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
