Summary of Position:

 

As a Process Engineer, you’ll play a key role in optimizing operations within either the Hot End or Cold End of the plant, contributing to the success of our manufacturing processes.

 

Cold End Focus:


In this role, you’ll oversee and control critical processes such as curing, sizing, facing, and packaging. By analyzing data from Process Technicians, Production Superintendents, and other team members, you’ll identify opportunities for process improvements while ensuring existing parameters are maintained. Your work will directly impact the quality and efficiency of our production.

 

Hot End Focus:


Here, your expertise will center on the furnace, fiberizing, batch, binder, and recycled water processes. You’ll collaborate across departments, including Corporate Engineering, R&D, Plant Engineering, and Production, to drive innovation, resolve technical challenges, and implement process enhancements that elevate our fiberglass manufacturing capabilities.

Responsibilities

When Assigned to the Cold End:

  • Perform technical analyses of manufacturing and process data related to curing, sizing, facing, and packaging.
  • Identify process bottlenecks using time studies and other analytical methods, and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Apply data-driven insights to enhance processes and meet customer expectations.
  • Develop and recommend innovative ideas or methods to improve manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Participate in projects or assist project sub-teams focused on process and product optimization, innovation, cost reduction, and other business objectives.
  • Maintain process set points and controls for curing, sizing, facing, and packaging operations.
  • Collaborate with other Process Engineers and Corporate functions to share insights and drive improvements.
  • Review and approve new product requests based on plant capabilities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date process data, including KIMS requirements and record-keeping.

When Assigned to the Hot End:

  • Ensure glass delivered to the Process Group meets proper viscosity, temperature, and chemistry requirements.
  • Manage the fiberizing process to ensure optimal settings are in place and adhered to.
  • Oversee spinner inventory and life expectancy to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Stay current on the relationship between glass chemistry and its properties to optimize performance.
  • Manage and maintain the plant’s recycled water system, including filtration, treatment, and disposal.
  • Perform technical analyses of manufacturing and process data, applying results to improve processes and meet customer expectations.
  • Develop and manage furnace maintenance processes, utilizing both internal and external labor resources.
  • Oversee all batch house operations, including raw material unloading and mixing.
  • Lead and participate in projects or sub-teams focused on process and product optimization, innovation, cost reduction, and other business goals.
  • Manage all binder room operations, including raw material unloading and mixing.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in Process or Manufacturing Engineering is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SAP and Minitab is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of chemistry as it relates to glass, binder, and washwater processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of machinery, including its design, functionality, and use.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to address complex challenges effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate across teams and convey technical information clearly.
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings with precision.
  • Capability to identify and direct maintenance repairs as needed.
  • Skilled in writing clear and concise work instructions and procedures to support operational excellence.
