Summary of Position:

 

The Product Development Engineer will develop new conceptual product design, provide technical support or solve problems with scientific approach from their engineering or science training. This includes the activities on market feedback, product & process development, validation, and testing. The person will work closely with manufacturing, corporate engineering, sales, lab, customers, etc. in a family-owned fast-growing company.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for new product development, existing product optimization and/or product improvement.
  • Coordinate and supervise trials with plant, corporate engineering, lab, customers, sales, etc.
  • Provide technical support and to manufacturing, customers, sales/marketing, purchasing and others.
  • Solve problem methodically on product quality, customer development or complaints, and production efficiency.
  • Work cross-functionally with the team members from purchasing, sales, manufacturing, finance, and test laboratory to ensure successful completion of the project.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, science, or other technical fields

Preferred: 

  • Experience in product development or process development capacity
  • Experience in building and construction industries, preferably including fiber glass products.
  • Experience on Six Sigma & FMEA methodologies and PPAP

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to think critically, identify errors/deficiencies in product or process and provide solutions, to address production issue in plant, and provide technical solution to customers.
  • Ability to think outside the box, develop new conceptual product design and improve existing products or manufacturing methods.
  • Willingness to learn and develop, work in lab, plant, or office setting.
  • Ability to develop actions plans and set objectives, be action and results oriented.
  • Must be able to work in teams and assume leadership role when needed.
  • Effectively communicate and interface at different levels within the company.
  • Ability to build relationships across the organization will be the key to success.
  • Represent Knauf with industry organizations such as but not limited to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), and Underwriter’s Laboratories
